Expectations of a Host Family

• Your home has an extra private bedroom and Internet access.
• Provide 3 nutritious meals per day plus snacks and beverages.
• English is the primary language spoken in your home.
• You have the time and energy necessary to welcome a new member of the family into your lives.
• Host families in the program cannot host other children/teens/adults who are non-family members. Examples include, but are not limited to billets, foster children, college students, and students from other international programs.
• You have home safety devices (e.g. smoke detector and fire extinguisher)
• Everyone 18 years of age and older in your home completes a Criminal Record Check and everyone in your home who has a driver's license requests a Personal Driving Record (Driver's Abstract) from ICBC. (After you've submitted your application, a homestay coordinator will give you instructions on how to complete them.)

 

Before you begin

 

Before you begin the online application process, please make sure you have collected all the Required Documents below in the correct format.

 

You have 15 days in which to complete the online application. If you need more time, please contact rminternational@sd6.bc.ca.

 

 

Required Documents

 

The following documents and photos are required for the homestay application. The application process will be complete once you upload all of these items into the online application system. 

 

1. Host Family Letter: Write a letter to welcome your prospective student(s). Tell them about yourself, your family, and what life is like in your home and in your community. Describe your expectations of, and goals for your student(s) and explain your reasons for wanting to host an international student. This document needs to be in PDF or JPG and less than 3MB in size.
2. Mandatory photos: 1) front of your home; 2) family photo; 3) student's bedroom. Additional photos are encouraged if they add important information regarding what your family likes to do and where you live. Photos need to be in JPG and less than 3MB.
