Application Instructions - Sea to Sky

Seats in School District #48 (Sea to Sky)'s International Program are limited. Please note that students intending to graduate in BC will need usually 2 years in order to do so.  Advance planning with our team is very important, and this request must be made clear in the application.

 

 

 

 

Before you begin

 

School District #48 (Sea to Sky) will only accept complete applications using our secure online application system. Mailed, emailed, or faxed applications are only being accepted in our transition phase to the new application process. Incomplete applications will not be processed.

 

Before you begin the online application process, please make sure you have collected all the necessary information and documents. You will need the applicant’s complete information and at least one parent’s complete information. This includes names, birthdates, addresses, etc. Required and recommended documents (see below) must be submitted as PDF or JPEG files only and less than 5MB each. If any document is larger than 5MB, it has been scanned at too high a resolution and must be rescanned at a lower resolution before beginning the application process.

 

The application fee is $250 CAD and is nonrefundable.

 

Required documents

 

In order to submit an application, the  documents listed below are required. If you do not upload these documents into the online application system, you may not complete the application process. If you do not submit a complete application within fourteen (14) days, the partial application will be automatically deleted.

 

  1. Transcripts or report cards. You must have a record of grades for the last two years, translated into English, they must be in PDF or JPEG files only, and less than 5MB in size. You will only be able to upload one document, so please ensure all pages of the records of grades are scanned as a single document.
  2. Legal agreement - Participation Guidelines, Off-Site Activity Waiver, Release of Liability, Waiver of Claims. The parent(s) must sign our agreements. During the the application process, please download the Legal Agreements, have them signed in ink, and scanned as a PDF or JPEG file only. Please note that the Participation Guidelines must be signed by the student, parents and you as agent.
  3. Passport photo page. Please scan the passport photo page of the applicant’s passport, if they have a passport already. This allows us to double-check the applicant’s information to ensure that all correspondence is correct.
  4. Letter of Recommendation. Please have a teacher, school counselor, or Headmaster/Principal write a letter of recommendation for the applicant. This letter should be on school letterhead and identify the student and their strong points, scanned as one document.  Alternately, use the form provided in the online process.
  5. Student’s letter. This letter, scanned as one document, is written by the student to the host family, explaining their desire to come to Canada and study in Sea to Sky School District. It should outline their past studies, their interests and hobbies, and their future goals.
  6. A letter from the parents which explains to the Host Family what their child is like, what his/her personality is like, their likes, dislikes, aspirations in life.  They may mention some unique things about his/her work ethic, organizatioal skills & study habits, & how they would like him/her to contribute to family life while they are learning the new culture and language.
  7. Immunization records.  Please scan as a single document all immunization records relevant to the student's medical history.
  8. Photo album (at least five (5) carefully chosen pictures) for our homestay placement process. Please scan the entire album as one document.
  9. Course request form.  Please ensure the student reads and intials the boxes at the top as well as indicating the courses of choice.
  10. Other documents. If you have another document pertinent to admission, such as a student interview form, please submit it as a single document.
